9/11

Today is the Ten Year Anniversary of being attacked by Muslims.  People don't like to point out that it was Muslims who attacked us, but it was.  "Political Correctness" in this country has become unreal and demeaning.  Everyone keeps asking, "What were you doing when we were attacked?"  Where was I?  I was driving to school.  I had just begun my first year teaching in Victorville, California.  I remember driving on the dirt/gravel road and hearing the report on the radio that we had been attacked.  I immediately called my dad who verified, that indeed, it was true.

Today at church there was a tribute for those that lost their lives on this day, ten years ago.  Former Miss America, Katie Harmon spoke briefly and sang, "God Bless America".  I think it's been years since I've heard that song.  Afterwards, kids were able to climb into firetrucks and get their own fireman's hat.  My boys loved this!

Homework

Even though he doesn't want to admit it, Jayden is pretty excited about school.  His teacher sent home a calendar with homework assignments to choose from for the month.  They are way too easy for Jayden, but he still has to do it anyway.  I'm becoming a little concerned that he may eventually become bored due to lack of a challenge.

Emerson wanted some "homework" to do, too. :)

The completed assignment!  He was asked to draw a circle, square, triangle, and rectangle and then cut them out.  We took it a step further and colored them.  Pretty easy assignment so far.  He is supposed to complete assignments similar to this five times this month...  Other assignments are writing your name three times, practicing zipping up a jacket, practicing tying shoes, and singing the abc's while pointing to the letters.  All things that Jayden knows how to do.

First Day of Kindergarten

The day has come for Jayden to start Kindergarten.  I can't believe it's actually here!  He was pretty excited this morning to get up and get dressed for the big day.  We bought him a whole new wardrobe and he was sure that he wanted to wear his new button down shirt.  I fixed his hair real nice, putting in my special hair products, and he even got to wear some of Wayne's cologne!  Jayden felt pretty special this morning, and he surely is.   When it was time to leave, Jayden was already at the door with his backpack on and lunchbox in hand.  We of course had to take the traditional picture by the front door, just as my mom did year after year with my brother and I.

The whole family drove Jayden to school today and I will be driving him from here on out.  There is no way he is taking the bus for obvious reasons.  It was funny, though, because before we left Jayden's classroom he asked if he could take the bus home!

When we arrived to school, Jayden was told to look for his name on a desk.  He was placed right in front of the room. Poor guy, he was a little nervous at this point.

Here he is writing his name on his paper while sitting at his desk. :)  Studious already!

The kids were instructed to go and stand next to the teacher to wave good-bye to the parents.  This was a  good strategy on her part because parents never want to leave on the first day. ha ha

Jitter Glitter

Tomorrow morning Jayden starts Kindergarten.  I cannot believe this day has come and that he is old enough to go to school.  Even though I'm feeling sentimental that the "baby days" are gone, I'm excited for Jayden's new chapter.  He seems a little unsure, but as the evening is going along, he's become more excited.

Last week we went to Jayden's school for an orientation.  His teacher gave us a packet with information as well as some "Jitter Glitter" for the kids.  Attached to a little ziplock with glitter was this cute poem:

Jitter Glitter!
(For the night before your 1st day of kindergarten)

The night before school is exciting and fun.
There's always so much to be done.
Your clothes are ready, your backpack is too.
Your classroom is full of fun things to do.
There are many questions going through your mind,
So many thoughts of every kind.
Sometimes kids get the jitters down deep,
And find it hard to fall asleep.
This jitter glitter is a present for you.
It will help you be rested and ready for school.
The night before school when you go to bed,
Just sprinkle some glitter on your head.
The glitter will help you sleep through the night
And wake in the morning fresh and bright.
I'll sprinkle some glitter on my head, too,
And remember I can't wait to see you!!!

I can already tell this is going to be a good year with a really fun teacher.  In so many ways she already reminds me of my most favorite teacher, Mrs. Pettit!

Here's Jayden holding the poem and glitter.

Pouring the Jitter Glitter on his head.

One Step Closer to Arizona!

We've made a big step recently and signed a contract to sell our home.   It's a very exciting time for us and we our looking forward to the adventure ahead!  Right now the thought of moving to another state, knowing that we cannot ever come back to this one, is a little scary and nerve-racking, but also super exciting!  I can't wait for opportunities and excitement that lies ahead of us!

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord.  " Plans to prosper you and not to harm you.  Plans to give you a hope and a future."  - Jeremiah 29:11
